A debut album of nearly 3 hours. The ingenious jazz sounds of of saxophonist Kamasi Washington are of a high level. He has previously worked with Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock and also with Flying Lotus, but here is his solo album. 17 steaming tunes, selected from 45 tunes which he had lying around.

Without exaggeration he can be compared with jazz greats such as John Coltrane en Ornette Coleman. Washingtons output is above all refreshing and current> All songs span at least 6 minutes but he will still keep your attention with longer pieces like 'Re Run Home'. This is free jazz for 2015 mixed up with glowing, cinematic soul jazz, sizzling funk and steaming bebop! The Epic is rightfully an epic masterpiece in jazz.

The Epic is a 172-minute, three-volume set that includes a 32-piece orchestra, a 20-person choir, and 17 songs overlaid with a compositional score written by Washington.
