Highs and Lows' Community Always series continues with Pass the Aux—a modern radio platform born from a love of music and the honest conversation it sparks. What began as casual studio experiments between friends has grown into a space that captures memory through sound, exploring stories through the songs that shaped them. At its core, PTA is a reflection of its creators: considered, personal and unfiltered. Through a growing audience and an evolving archive of voices, PTA remains committed to building something meaningful, where culture is shared, community is nurtured, and music is the common language.

We sat down with the minds behind the project to hear more about what inspired them, the moments that shaped their journey, and why community remains at the heart of what they do.

What inspired the creation of Pass the Aux and what makes it unique?

Mat and I wanted to talk about music and slowly developed PTA as we know it now. Trials in the studio, fumbles on the mic, led to the build of our current format; music & conversation, modern radio. Simply put, PTA is our creative outlet, a platform to share songs and ideas. I don't know what makes it unique, I guess we are just trying to be ourselves, authentic and considered.

What have been some key highlights for Pass the Aux?

Having our guests share pivotal moments from their life and pair those experiences with their favourite music. It's always such a joy to have someone transport us to a key moment through music. Our friend "Goons" shared stories from her meditation retreat in Sri Lanka way back in episode 004. That was a major highlight and a moment where we both thought, this is exactly what PTA should be about.

How important is community to your business?

Both our community of listeners and our immediate circle of friends / guests are the only reason we can do what we do. Our mailbag is growing and only adds further depth to our relationship with the listeners. No business exists without community and culture, and we are trying to build ours, by expressing and discussing the music, art, ideas and products that are relevant in our lives. This is the aspect of the project that excites us the most looking forward!
