Bulgaria-born, New Jersey-raised Chopova and Somerset-raised tomboy Lowena-Irons are the duo behind the fashion world’s latest obsession, Chopova Lowena. Beautiful chaos best defines the label’s signature style, and the brand, known for their gothic undertones with a romantic twist, have very quickly become the independent darlings of London Fashion Week, celebrated for the way they cleverly juxtapose folklore and sportswear with subversive modernity … and also for those infamous kilt skirts.
For SS24, inspiration came from ‘skater boy love’ (a nod to Avril, circa 2002) and the ancient Flora Day Festival which is held in the English seaside town of Cornwall. Dragons and maidens, angels and devils, lucky charms, pixelated graphic prints and chunky metal hardware including chainlinks and carabiner detailings adorn this entire collection. The motifs are heavy, the narrative always strong. Chopova Lowena is also part of the new wave of conscious designers who prioritise sustainability. Recycled materials and deadstock textiles sourced mainly from US and Italy are incorporated into their collection, and they are passionate about creating job opportunities for women, employing skilled artisan seamstresses in Bulgaria to honour the brand’s cultural heritage as well as preserve traditional techniques.
Arriving for the first time on Lvl 02 are their taffeta kilt skirts which are available in both mini and midi lengths. We also have perfect pieces for transeasonal layering, including their lace bow knit cardigan ruggedly woven from organic cotton and recycled polyamide, as well as a striking selection of their recycled-nylon fitted mesh tops in both short and long-sleeve varieties. And to finish off the whole ritual & riot theme of this SS24 collection, we present their palladium-plated jewellery pieces which includes multi-charm necklaces alongside blue devil or blood-red cherub rings.
