The eagerly anticipated collaborative trilogy between HAL STUDIOS ® and ASICS presents the final chapter of the series, MK III GLACIER. Expanding upon the duo's continuous conversation surrounding the natural environment, the GEL-1130 MK III “GLACIER” derives inspiration from the constantly evolving arctic landscape.
Since the inception of the GEL-1130 series, designer and creative director John Bouquet adheres to the blueprint of “maximal minimalism”, by reimagining traditional sports shoe design characteristics. Immediately the contrasting materials interwoven throughout the upper provide an unfamiliar rendition of a recognised ASICS silhouette. This silhouette was originally released in 2008, preserving its TRUSSTIC support system designed with the purpose of providing the wearer with stability and comfort. MK III GLACIER preserves the celebrated ASICS GEL technology in the heel unit to absorb shock and offer superior comfort and support, founding features that provide the core of the Japanese shoe label’s identity.
The natural system attributed to the design inspiration behind the MK III is the incongruity between the expansive rugged arctic landscapes and the glacial kingdoms that they encapsulate. Natural elements within this landscape are incorporated into every intricate detail of this sneaker including black sand beaches, snow, ice, and serene water valleys. Universally percieved as a notoriously treacherous corner of the globe, a desolate place requiring thousands of years of natural selection to become liveable for many species. Humans who dare to encounter this landscape are required to wear highly protective and insulated garments to avoid the unforgiving nature of the glacial landscape. Those who dare to venture further into the mountainous ranges are often required to do so by rope, hence this safety precaution denotes the inspiration behind the distinguishable red rope laces present on the MK III.
The fusion between breathable open mesh with hairy suede panelling creates an interesting contrast with the dark brown leather accents displayed on the heel and toecap, creating a tasteful twist between retro and futuristic design elements.

The final installment of the HAL STUDIOS ® and ASICS collaboration features wide-open breathable mesh upper with hairy suede & faux leather overlays. Embedded in the heel is GEL technology cushioning featuring the TRUSSTIC™ support system with a moulded EVA sole and rubber outsole. The finer details can be noticed by observing the co-branded faux leather insole, HAL STUDIOS® transparent TPU tags on each heel, the two silicon-dipped lace options, co-branded box and rubber hang-tag.
