adidas Originals and Wales Bonner continue their collaborative partnership with the Spring/Summer 2023 collection, shifting their focus to the vibrant culture of Jamaica and exploring the Trefoil’s lasting presence within the culture. This season, the collection showcases a range of reimagined vintage silhouettes, featuring elevated material compositions and refreshing colour palettes, all designed for both men and women.
The footwear offerings in this collection reimagine two classic adidas designs with a Wales Bonner twist. The WB Samba, known for its iconic status, returns in two distinct makeups: one with a neutral color palette, featuring a nubuck upper and leather stripes, and the other with a silver leather upper and crochet stripes. Additionally, the WB SL72 Knit recontextualises the retro adidas runner with a knitted upper, paying homage to Jamaican culture, and is available in two unique colourways.
The collection's campaign, brought to life by photography and directorial duo Jalan and Jibril Durimel, continues the visual storytelling of previous seasons. It captures the essence of Jamaica's mysticism, portraying the land of wood and water in an ethereal and captivating manner. Styled by renowned British talent Tom Guinness, who has collaborated with Wales Bonner for a long time, the campaign seamlessly blends traditional portraiture with dreamlike documentary imagery. The visuals emphasise the intersection of place and cultural identity, showcasing the intimate connections between landscapes, nature, and people and evoking a sense of freedom, community, and togetherness.
