In 1971, Bill Bowerman was searching for a sole that could grip a new, slippery track surface without spiking too deep. Glancing at his wife's waffle iron, he poured liquid rubber straight into it — ruining a 35-year-old wedding present and creating the waffle sole in the process. By the 1972 US Olympic Trials, a dozen hand-cobbled pairs were on athletes' feet, nicknamed the Moon Shoe for the lunar-like footprints they left behind. This OG retro brings that origin story back faithfully, built on a nylon upper with leather Swoosh detailing and the same waffle traction that started it all.
