New Balance built the 1954R by blending design elements from its 2002 and 1906 lines, landing on a shape that borrows the 1906's overall silhouette while pulling cues from elsewhere in the archive. The upper mixes premium suede with breathable mesh, with the brand's N logo executed in raised N-Lock construction along the side panel. Around the heel, a grid-pattern TPU counter borrowed from the 1906A adds structure, while a full-length ABZORB midsole handles the cushioning underfoot. In Black on Black, the whole shoe reads clean and tonal.
