Community Always | Tokyo Lift | EPISODE 43*
As part of adidas Originals’ Community Always series, Highs and Lows connects with Tokyo Lift, a Perth-based service bringing old-world charm back to the everyday. What began with a Toyota Century has grown into a tailored experience that treats even the simplest trip as something to be savoured. Rooted in Perth and supported by the city’s car community, Tokyo Lift balances a love of hospitality with a deep respect for craft and detail. At its core, it is about connection — the people who helped build it, the friends made along the way, and the memories still to come.

What inspired the creation of Tokyo Lift and what makes it unique?
The creation of Tokyo Lift was inspired mainly from a love of hospitality and sharing good times with those around us. It likely goes without saying that both of us have a passion for cars, but after falling in love with the Toyota Century, it just made sense to employ it for its intended purpose - a luxury chauffeur-driven car. Curating a tailored and intimate service around the Century (and now the Crown too!) means that we can share a special experience with others while celebrating the character of classic cars. We pride ourselves on old-school service and reigniting charm in moments that are now often without it - a simple trip from A to B can still be done in style.

Any exciting moments coming up or previous highlights that you'd like to share?
Seeing our vision for the Toyota Century come to life after years in the making was definitely a feel-good moment. From there, slowly growing and acquiring our second car was another jewel in the crown (pun intended!) for us. We have found the most fulfilment in being a part of people’s weddings, which has been truly special and memorable. We also recently launched our Originals Collection which showcases handmade one-of-a-kind pieces such as jewellery and accessories that reflect our brand identity.

How important is community to your business?
We love Perth and are both so proud to call this place home. Community is an integral part of Tokyo Lift's identity, not only for the business itself but as a part of our ethos on a personal level. The actual development/finishing of the cars themselves was facilitated by a number of local businesses and friends within Perth's car community - anyone who's had a long-term project will agree that this process is enduring and full of unexpected complications! Without a strong footing in your respective community, working through these hurdles becomes significantly more difficult. A lot of Tokyo Lift's first bookings and trial-runs came about from word of mouth and mutual acquaintances. On that basis alone, we're very grateful and proud of the community we're in. But above all, we're excited to keep driving and make some more memories (and friends along the way!).
