We are pleased to introduce French footwear label Plasticana to the HAL Department Store. Manufactured entirely in France, the brand offers a practical, material-focused take on waterproof footwear, crafting simple clogs and boots from an innovative hemp-based bio-plastic.
Introducing Plasticana — waterproof clogs and boots made in France from an innovative hemp-based bio-plastic.
The label's distinct visual identity is rooted entirely in its raw materials. By fusing plant-based hemp fibres into recyclable vinyl, Plasticana creates a lightweight, fully waterproof compound that reduces reliance on traditional petroleum plastics. The signature warm amber colour of the footwear is entirely natural, produced by sugars present in the processed hemp without the need for synthetic dyes or chemical additives.
"A warm amber colour, entirely natural, with no synthetic dyes or chemical additives."
Models like the classic Gardana clog bring an unpretentious, agricultural utility directly onto our lifestyle floor. Originally designed for garden work and outdoor tasks, the slip-on shape relies on a moulded low-profile footbed, easy maintenance, and simple durability. This honest approach to utility recently caught wider attention through a collaborative release with Montreal design studio JJJJound, bringing the humble Gardana clog into focus while keeping its raw hemp aesthetic and functional roots intact.
Plasticana fits naturally into our selection as a purpose-driven option that balances sustainable material innovation with straightforward, long-term use. The initial delivery of Plasticana footwear is available now in-store at the HAL Department Store and online.
