Originally showcased during Kiko Kostadinov’s Spring/Summer 2024 menswear runway earlier this year, the Gel-Teremoa silhouette is a new addition to the recently announced ASICS Novalis diffusion line designed by the Bulgarian label. The name Novalis has been muttered frequently within the loyal Kiko Kostadinov fan-base, a collection that has been in the works for years that exemplifies a new movement of “anti-gorpcore”. Novalis is centred around a metaphysical and unconventional aesthetic while maintaining a sense of utility and wearability. In a brief statement Kostadinov stated that he believes “good clothes should be rooted in usefulness, comfort and pleasure,” with the purpose of “blending with consumers’ wardrobes rather than being loud statement pieces.”
Since 2017 Kostadinov has collaborated with ASICS on numerous original silhouettes including the Kayano 14, and Gel Nimbus 9, over time he began the creative endeavour of designing his own unique silhouettes. Numerous fascinating silhouettes entered the sneaker market, capturing the attention of tech-wear enthusiasts across the globe. The Gel Teremoa is a truly innovative silhouette featuring a synthetic leather-dominant upper, complete with a sculpted gel sole. Arriving in three distinct colourways including Java/Pewter Purple, Medallion Yellow/Honey, and Obsidian Black/Smoke Shadow. Novalis also presents a series of made in Japan utilitarian focused garments, reinterpreting the fundamental ASICS ethos of ‘Sound Mind, Sound Body’ to expand beyond the design principles of athletic performance and into every-day wear.
