// Sonic conversations with Dominic Simper and Nicholas Allbrook

“Basically this project started out as conversation down south - Nick had recently put on an tape loop ambient show in London, and i had just put out my record ‘unfolding’. having played in bands together in previous lives we had a pretty good understanding of each other, and we pretty much decided at that moment to put on a show together - without as much as a clue as to how we would do it.

Back in Perth, the project quickly became an excuse to hang out for an afternoon whenever we could, making sonic textures as the light of Fremantle sunset filled the house. using samples, tape loops, tape echos and synthesizers we would experiment until something felt good, at which point we’d leave it looping and go outside to have chats about music and life. if it still sounded good an hour later we knew we were onto something. We’re both really into the idea of music as working with a space / object. Hence the installation aspect of the night with Tom rogers / Victoria hall space. the way that music can play with the light and angles of a room. we both love the idea of ambient music being a sort of auditory wallpaper. music as furniture."
