Bringing together the community through her passion for creativity and self-expression, Boorloo (Perth) based nail artist, Toko Hutcheson (She / Her) joins us in our Mt Lawley space. Toko is the founder and creator of ANGEL CITY NAILS, a studio space where she pushes the boundaries and adds a new dimension to nail art by bringing intricate sculptures and detailed characters with a nostalgic trip from the 90s and noughties.

Her studio has become a space to allow people to be authentic to themselves – a community barred by no limitations but their own imaginations, a space for self-expression and creativity. For Toko the community is the most important aspect for her creations. Tailoring her studio space to encourage open dialogue between her and her ANGELS and making sure they feel open and comfortable no matter their gender or background.

“I want people to come into the space and feel like they’re hanging out with a friend.”

It’s a gentle reminder and celebration for all of us - that we’re all human and we all just want to have a good time. And although aesthetics is important for Toko, she emphasizes the most important part is how she wants people to feel really good and confident about themselves when they leave the space.

Inspired by the Nike Air Force 1 “Nail Salon”

To celebrate the upcoming release of the Nike Air Force 1 “Nail Salon”, Toko joins us with her ANGELS Kris (They / Them) and Debbie (She / Her). Drawing inspiration from the design elements of Nike’s latest release, her first set touches upon the Swoosh with a gel-like finish decorated in blue and white to take on a cloud-like appearance. The nails create a feeling of freedom derived from the clear blue colour palette together with the volume of the cloud sculptures adding a feeling of weightlessness.

Meanwhile, her second set investigates the origins of the Nike Air Force 1. Donning the multiple components of the shoe from its history as an OG basketball silhouette, to the iconic status it had achieved in modern fashion. Iconic lines and patterns are recreated onto the nail creating a contemporary athleisure feeling and inspiring the best versions of ourselves.

Celebrate 40 years of legendary design with an update that’s sure to have you feeling like you’re walking on clouds. Inspired by how a fresh manicure can make your look feel more polished, Nike has elevated the classic comfort, tried-and-true durability and nothing-but-net style you’ve come to expect from the AF1.
