My first introduction to Alex James was via his thrift/vintage band tee stall at a Brooklyn flea market.

Fast forward: PLEASURES popped up and started to visually engage with me,  I was intrigued.

Firstly, thank you very much for being a part of this project.

Please introduce yourself:

Hello Alex James here. Co-founder of PLEASURES.

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in the great state of New Jersey.

What drives you in your work?

I am driven by our audience, friends, and family. Someone once tole me “ If you don’t do it, someone else will”. That mantra stuck with me and shows in my work.

How do ‘treat your self/ after a long week at the grind?

I like to relieve frustrations by working out. Running, weights, stretching, etc. During recovery, I like to take a hot bath in my jacuzzi tub and listen to music.

Name a Artist of any discipline that has inspired you living or dead?

Man Ray was really the first artist I gravitated toward at a young age. His thought provoking object based worked really opened my mind. A true legend so far ahead of his time.

Next holiday destination?

In a beautiful world, I would like to come back to Perth and then explore Bali.

Movie or book you have seen/read this year you would recommend to friend?

Q-Ball on Netflix was really inspirational. It was about the inmates basketball team at San Quentin prison. These guys were so positive and really played their hearts out. They were so good, non prisoners would come and play against them.

What's for dinner tonight?

Trying to keep it healthy during quarantine. Brown rice, spicy grilled salmon with mixed grilled veggies along with vegetable gyoza. Great meal and easy to cook.

Please enjoy Episode One of our Wellness Lounge with special guest Alex James.
