Some of you may or may not remember the CLAE footwear of yonder. As a young shoe brand they were extremely ahead of their time, perhaps a little too much for their target audience, and ended up vanishing into footwear purgatory (everywhere but Australia) for several years. Where they went is a mystery (some say everywhere but Australia), but all that really matters is that CLAE is officially back in the southern hemisphere with a leather-clad venegance for what we hope will be a long and successful tenure.
Of all the emerging footwear labels from the last couple of years, StampdLA has been the quiet achiever, acquiring some very high profile fans with it’s contemporary-meets-street aesthetic. It’s founder, Chris Stamp, had been customizing shoes for a heavy list of celebrities and lurkers alike when he decided to start up his own label after the success of his commissions. The end results are some super versatile silhouettes, perfect for dressing up or down. They’ve recently done a t-shirt collaboration with Lil Wayne and the Young Money squad and their latest range is hard to mess with. Go and check their site for more background and be sure to pop in to the Claremont store and see what all the fuss is about!
Whilst footwear may not be the most conventional base for an artist’s design, it’s a guarantee that a person’s shoes are going to see a much larger and more diverse audience than any wall-bound canvas could ever hope for. Especially if you actually wear them…
The white Vans Authentic is an artist’s dream when it comes to porta-painting as it’s flat silhouette and large, uncomplicated panels provide the perfect canvas for anyone looking to put their own spin on a pair of classics. Countless renditions of the Vans Authentic have been produced by artists from all over the world and we recently received a pair from a local artist by the name of Mugurel, who’s left no millimeter untouched by his intricate, highly detailed markings. In a world where nothing is sacred and fashion recycles itself every five minutes, Mugurel has created a timeless piece of wearable art that can never be duplicated.

After hearing legendary songstress Sade proclaiming her love for Raekwon’s Only Built For Cuban Linx 2, the Chef decided to cook up a little tribute to the sounds of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Overjoyed’. Completely irrelevant for the most part, it’s just nice to see Raekwon pretending to play the piano.
