FILM HISTORY 101. The Secret Of Nimh. 1982

September 21, 2011 | Posted in: Film History 101

This is one of the finest animations of all time . Don Bluth is hands down one of the finest animators to use a pen.  Mrs. Brisby, a widowed mouse, lives in a cinder block with her children on the Fitzgibbon farm. She is preparing to move her family out of the field they live in as plowing time approaches, however her son Timothy has fallen ill, and moving him could prove fatal. Mrs. Brisby visits The Great Owl, a wise creature who advises her to visit a mysterious group of rats who live beneath a rose bush on…

Film History 101 .TYSON Documentary

May 11, 2011 | Posted in: Blogroll, Film History 101

Mike Tyson narrates his life story as a reaction to fear and as a resolution not to be bullied or humiliated as he was when a boy in Brooklyn’s mean streets. He starts boxing while at a state detention center; his coach there sends him to Cus D’Amato who becomes trainer, father figure, and confidence builder. We see later losing fights and archive footage of other incidents in his life. Tyson concludes by…

Film History 101.Raging Bull.1980

January 17, 2011 | Posted in: Film History 101

“Raging Bull” is a cinematic masterpiece which pulls no punches. Based on a true story, Robert De Niro (in his second Oscar-winning role) stars as Jake La Motta, a middle-weight prize-fighter from the late-1940s and early-1950s, who basically destroys himself and those around him because of an uncontrollable temper and poor decision-making. Instead of going down as one of the greatest boxers of all time, La Motta ruined his career because he was unable to see the “big picture”. He threw bouts, he got involved with low-life underworld crime figures, he beat his wife (Cathy Moriarty, in her Oscar-nominated…
